Beano is my beloved 12 year old rat terrier. i will never forget that afternoon, many years ago, when i was in a department store with him. as i was going up an escalator he was in my arms, but as we got closer to the top i let him get down thinking he would just hop down the last step and onto the floor. what happened next is a true horror story: all of a sudden Beano screamed with pain, his paw stuck in space between the escalator and the floor. the pain was such he was literally screaming, while in a panic i just yanked his paw out of there, blood allover, the hortified store clerks stopped the escalator (a bit too late). all i could do was try to keep the dog calm and also keep my daughter calm, so i just held on tight to Beano's paw, my hand full of blood and ran out of the store and into a cab. i just asked the cab driver to take me to a vet and god bless him he said "there is the animal hospital right near by." as soon as we got there, it was like a scene from ER, all i had to say was "my dog's paw got stuck in the escalator" and they rushed me in. It was a long time ago, but all i remember was how sweet and gentle these vets were, particularly one Dr. Herrion, and how they told me they we are going to get Beano into surgery to remove one toe. It wasn't long after that, Beano reappeared with a blue cast on his paw, a relieved look on his face like to say "it's all over." he was just fine and still lives a happy life, but that toe missing from his back paw is just a reminder of how lucky we were to stumble upon the animal medical center! thanks again.
