Volunteer at The AMC

volunteersThe Animal Medical Center receives many inquiries from individuals interested in volunteer work. Although we appreciate their interest and dedication, it is not possible to accept the services of all the volunteers who contact us.

Those interested in volunteering at the hospital are advised to submit a request for a volunteer application through careers@amcny.org after reviewing the following guidelines for the volunteer program:

  • All volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.  Those under the age of 17 require parental approval. (Individuals under the age of 16 may, under certain circumstances, be allowed to observe.)
  • Volunteer positions are generally short-term and for the purpose of completing “special projects.” For the most part they are clerical, rather than clinical in nature.
  • All candidates must apply through the Human Resources Department and are chosen on the basis of experience, qualifications and availability.

Thank you for your interest in our Volunteer Program. Questions can be directed to Human Resources at careers@amcny.org.

Pet Outreach Program

rabbit at pet outreachThe AMC’s Pet Outreach Program joins isolated people and affectionate animals to improve lives. We visit nursing homes, as well as programs for people who have a physical or intellectual disability. Our coordinator screens both volunteers and their pets. Candidates must be friendly, sensitive, reliable and comfortable with all kinds of people. Their pets must be healthy, well groomed, at ease outside their home environment and comfortable around other animals and people. If you are interested, please call Phyllis Brody, Pet Outreach Coordinator, at 212.838.8100, ext. 7348.
