After nearly three decades working in the human health care industry, Kathryn Coyne is turning her attention to animals. The newly named chief executive of the Animal Medical Center had most recently been CEO of Union Hospital in New Jersey, which closed in 2007. She and her staff stayed on until 2008.
Why animals?
After years of providing health care for humans, I really wanted to do the same for animals. It's always been my feeling that animals have, in a sense, no voice, so I wanted to be a part of their voice.
What's your biggest challenge?
One of our biggest challenges is competition from for-profit entities. I think competition is good for all businesses, and AMC is well-positioned to deal with it.

This woman made the whole process bearable for me. It stuck with me.
How many pets do you have?
I love animals and I've always had animals in my family. Right now I have two cats, and one donor cat that I'm taking care of. Over the years, I've also owned seven horses. Right now, I own one horse named Casino
