Otis' Story (continued) Page: 1 (2)
[Photo of Otis] While all patients respond differently to treatment, cats with an early diagnosis of CRF have an average survival time of three years. For those patients with advanced renal disease progression, The AMC is also uniquely equipped to provide cutting-edge therapies that include hemodialysis – a method of treating kidney failure by cleansing the blood outside of the body; GFR measurement – which helps to evaluate kidney function; CT scans; ultrasonography; fluoroscopy and pyelography – to observe and treat kidney stones and other kidney conditions; kidney biopsies; and ureter surgeries.

Under Dr. Langston’s expert and continuous care, Otis experienced a fairly uncomplicated course and lived an additional eight years – a reprieve far beyond what was expected. Otis came to be known as the “walking miracle” amongst his AMC-family, giving Ms. London precious time to share with her loyal friend, and to learn about his underlying illness.

Otis’ celebrated story illustrates the fluency with which The AMC is able to manage a broad range of common, often complex diseases like CRF, which require constant and highly specialized treatment. The AMC is one of the very few private practices in the country that utilizes a fully integrated veterinary team, allowing patients with challenging conditions to benefit from close collaborations between veterinary specialists. In this way, The AMC is able to provide unparalleled care for wonderful animal friends like Otis.
