A Very AMC Christmas
A Very AMC Christmas
The Christmas season is a time for storytelling. Some of the most famous pieces of literature tell stories about the holiday. Authors from around the world, such as Hans Christian Anderson, Anton Chekov, Charles Dickens, E. T. A. Hoffman and Dr. Seuss, have penned famous Christmas stories. Many of these stories have been reinterpreted into holiday favorites such as the Muppets Christmas Carol, a Broadway play featuring the Grinch and perhaps the most popular Christmas production of all time, Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet, which began as a short story about a Christmas gift.
While the Christmas stories from the Animal Medical Center may not end up on a bookshelf or on Broadway, they are touching and heartwarming in the spirit of the season. I thought I would share some of them with you in this blog post.
This first story might be my personal favorite because it’s so typical of the diversity and generosity of New Yorkers. The story’s main character is a lost hedgehog who is brought to AMC and reunited with its owner, just in time for Christmas.
The next two stories involve homeless pets made adoptable by AMC to the Rescue, our community fund supporting animals in need of a forever home. One cat, Frankie, received the gift of sight and a forever home, while Moo, a black and white cat, recovered from an automobile accident and moved to California.
Veterinarians usually say pets should not be Christmas gifts because the recipient might not be prepared for the gift and the holiday season can be a busy time to incorporate a new family member into the daily routine. Derek Jeter’s Christmas puppy worked out well, for him, but not all of us are up to the challenge of a puppy under the tree. All of us at AMC hope your 2019 Christmas story is filled with happiness and healthy animals.
