Navigating a Pet’s Cancer Diagnosis
A cancer diagnosis in a beloved pet can feel overwhelming, but there is hope. Join us on Wednesday, May 14th at 6PM ET, as Dr. Renee Alsarraf, Senior Veterinarian in Oncology at AMC and a Board-Certified Oncologist, offers insight and support for caregivers. Learn about the various treatment options, how treatment plans are developed and individualized, and ways to navigate the emotional and practical challenges of caring for a pet with cancer.

Renee Alsarraf, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology)
Senior Veterinarian in Oncology at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center
Dr. Renee Alsarraf received her veterinary medical degree in 1991 from Michigan State University. While there she established the University’s Pet Loss Support Group which is still in existence today. Dr. Alsarraf completed a rotating internship and medical oncology residency at the Animal Medical Center and worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering in a tissue culture lab. She has performed numerous veterinary clinical trials, co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles, and has lectured both locally and on the national level. Dr. Alsarraf has created 4 different veterinary oncology practices as well as created and led 3 veterinary radiation facilities. She is on MSU’s Veterinary School Admissions Committee. Her acclaimed memoir Sit, Stay, Heal: What Dogs Can Teach Us About Living Well celebrates the human-animal bond in its deepest form. She has done extensive interviews about her book on national tv, local tv, podcasts and in-person events.
Dr. Alsarraf enjoys giving back to the community and has done extensive work in this sector. Additionally, she used to compete in obedience trials with her boxers and help special needs children through horses. In her free time, she enjoys hunting for antiques, cooking, gardening, and listening to her son play the piano.
