Dr. Katherine Quesenberry with her Veterinarian of the Year Award

(New York, N.Y. – December 22, 2022) The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) is proud to announce that Katherine Quesenberry, DVM, MPH, DABVP (Avian), Chief Medical Officer and Service Head, Avian and Exotics, is the recipient of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society’s (NYSVMS) 2022 ‘Veterinarian of the Year’ award. This distinguished award is given to a member who, over the course of many years, served the region, state, and  veterinary profession in an exemplary and distinguished manner, and who is judged by her peers to be the most deserving of the award.

Dr. Quesenberry obtained her postgraduate training at AMC and since 2019 has held the position of Chief Medical Officer while continuing in her longtime role as Avian and Exotics service head; she has treated thousands of patients and published extensively. She has practiced avian and exotic pet medicine exclusively for over 35 years and is recognized both nationally and internationally as a leader in this field of veterinary medicine – having lectured throughout North America and Europe on the veterinary care of birds, small mammals, and exotic pets.

A Diplomate, Avian Practice, of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners Dr. Quesenberry has co-edited several books, including Ferrets, Rabbits and Rodents: Clinical Medicine and Surgery, now in its 4th edition, and Avian Medicine and Surgery, and authored numerous papers in peer-reviewed veterinary journals. Dr. Quesenberry currently serves as President-Elect of the Veterinary Medical Association of New York City. She served as the Scientific Editor for the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery from 1995 to 2019 and is the recipient of the 2017 Mammal Health Award presented by the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and Oxbow Animal Health.

“Through her many accomplishments as a veterinarian, leader, educator, and researcher, Dr. Katherine Quesenberry has helped to advance avian and exotic pet medicine worldwide,” said Kathryn Coyne, President and Chief Executive Officer at Schwarzman AMC. “Over the course of her distinguished career, Dr. Katherine Quesenberry has made, and continues to make, significant contributions to avian and exotic veterinary medicine.”

“I am humbled and so proud to receive the 2022 Veterinarian of the Year Award from the New York State Veterinary Medical Society,” said Dr. Katherine Quesenberry. “I would like to give special thanks to the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center for their support of my clinical and research endeavors for the past 35 years and to the New York State Veterinary Medical Association for this recognition.”
