Veterinary Student Summer Clinical Experience



Overview
The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center’s Veterinary Student Summer Clinical Experience is open to students from accredited veterinary schools who are either:
- between their first and second year of veterinary school, or
- between their second and third year of veterinary school.
This program is designed to provide students with an immersive clinical experience within a single service, allowing them to build familiarity with the team, workflow, and patient care responsibilities over the course of their time at AMC.
Program Structure
Participants will spend their entire experience on one clinical service. This structure is intended to help students get to know the service well and become a meaningful part of the team.
Dates and Duration
The program takes place during July and August.
- Minimum length: 4 weeks
- Maximum length: 8 weeks
Schedule and Hours
Students are expected to participate:
- 5 days per week
- On either a Monday through Friday schedule or a Tuesday through Saturday schedule
- For 40 hours per week
Additional hours beyond 40 per week may be permitted, but they are not required or expected.
Student Responsibilities
Students will be able to perform the same types of tasks that AMC veterinary assistants can do, but they may not perform duties that require a technician license.
As part of the experience, students will:
- participate in service rounds where patients are discussed
- have the opportunity to attend lectures when available
