Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the Animal Medical Center is open 24/7/365 for the care of dogs, cats, and exotic pets. As we navigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and renovations to our facilities, please review the information on this page to ensure your visit goes as smoothly as possible.

Directions and Parking

Due to renovations and changes in protocol, please allow extra time for travel and check-in to ensure your appointment begins on time.

The service road between AMC and the FDR Drive will close as needed on weekdays between 7 AM and 3:30 PM for construction, during which time cars turning onto 62nd St. will be routed directly onto the FDR Drive. Please plan accordingly.

The AMC parking lot is currently closed due to renovations. Other nearby parking facilities include:

  • City Parking | 501 E. 61st Street | 61st between York Ave. and the FDR
  • City Parking | 425 E. 61st Street | 61st between York Ave. and 1st Ave.
  • LAZ Parking | 1113 York Avenue | York between 60th St. and 61st St.
  • SP+ Parking | 420 E. 63rd Street | 63rd St. between York and 1st Ave.

Building Access

As COVID-19 restrictions evolve, we are happy to begin welcoming clients back into our hospital. Our curbside protocol will continue to operate as outlined below in cases when building access is not possible or it’s the client’s preference.

What to Know About Building Access

  • Entry to the hospital is based on capacity and is not guaranteed
  • All visitors must complete a health screening before access will be allowed
  • Masks are required
  • Only one client per patient will be admitted. Exceptions include:
    • Euthanasia (2 clients per patient)
    • Clients with young children
    • Clients with disabilities
  • Admittance will be controlled by our front desk staff, who will inform clients at check-in whether they can enter the building or not
  • Emergency and Critical Care clients should proceed directly to the 2nd floor to check in

Curbside Protocol

Please arrive at AMC with your phone fully charged to ensure you can communicate effectively with our medical staff.

  • When you arrive at AMC, check in with the facilitator at the front door.
  • After check-in, you and your pet can wait in our climate-controlled outdoor reception area with state-of-the-art air filtration.
  • Your doctor will call you on your personal cell phone to learn about your pet’s needs.
  • When it’s time for your pet’s visit, an AMC staff member will take your pet into the building.
  • While your pet is at AMC, you are free to wait in our outdoor waiting area, in your car, at your home, or anywhere that is comfortable to you.
  • Once the visit is complete, you will receive a call to begin the checkout process.
  • Following check-out, you will be notified when your pet is ready to be released and a staff member will return your pet, along with any necessary medications, to you at the front door.

Medical Records

Before your appointment, have your veterinarian(s) send medical records to AMC so we can best treat your pet and facilitate an efficient diagnostic plan. Please send records by email to client.services@amcny.org or fax to (212) 752-2592.

At every visit, please be sure we have the current contact information for both you and your referring veterinarian.

Cancellation Policy

The Animal Medical Center requires a three day notice for cancellations, or you may incur a fee.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call us at (212) 838-8100.

Prescription Refills

To refill prescriptions, calls us at (212) 838-8100. Please allow 72 hours for your prescription to be filled.

Clients picking up medication should alert the lobby staff when they arrive. Prescriptions will be delivered to clients outside.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate walk-in prescription refill requests or food orders at this time.

Rescheduling / Running Late

If you need to reschedule or are running late, please call us at (212) 838-8100.

Personal Belongings

AMC is not responsible for personal belongings such as carriers, beds, leashes, or any personal items for your pets. If your pet is admitted, please take these items with you. AMC cannot store these items for you.
