Our doors have been open
for 110 years.

COVID-19 didn't change that.

We've been on the front lines
since the beginning.

When the city shut down,
we stayed open.

A Year of Comprehensive Care

Pets and the Pandemic

2020 was a truly challenging year for us all—physically and emotionally. Our pets helped us through it just by being there by our sides, but also so much more—and each in their own unique way.

What Your Pets Have Meant to You

“These two sisters are Sandy and Casey, two strays I adopted in early June. They truly are bonded to one another, and do everything together. The girls have added a great deal of joy to an otherwise sad and mournful time.”

CHARLES Y.

“Ironically, Scout has the same disease as me. We seem to get each other through our flares or my surgeries. Because of so much isolation I've had due to surgeries, COVID has been extra hard since I'm at higher risk. He's so smart and intuitive and comforting. We've created a wonderful life together over many years.”

AMY L.

“Shiloh and Bailey have been the best quarantine partners anyone could ask for! They are so happy to be home with us all the time and they love to snuggle and watch TV with us on the couch!”

Remy S.

“Right now I’m forced to work from home and I live by myself. I wake up to Snickers, Fabio, and Jellybean doing the ‘feed me’ stare and, at night, the ‘good night, give me my carrot’ stare. They love being held and petted. They’re my family."

Barbara C.

“Lulu doesn’t let her special needs hold her back! She brings love, joy, and endless laughs to us during quarantine. She saved our family after we lost our Dane Bump Daddy this past July. We are blessed to have her.”

Nicole A.

“Zulu and Diamond have been my constant companions during quarantine. Their fun loving antics, soft purrs, and snuggles/cuddles staved off the loneliness and isolation that I would have felt if they were not in my life.”

Mary D.

“Lilly joined our household at the end of July. She’s a very bouncy girl who loves everyone and is not deterred by any kind of weather. She gets us out every day and helps to keep us fit while we shelter in the Berkshires during COVID.”

Christina d.

“Phoebe is a pandemic warrior with her constant humor and affection. She makes us laugh each and every day and showers us with love. She definitely gets a blue ribbon for best quarantine companion!”

Gigi S.

“Milly, Rosco, and Bondi were all found separately trying to survive outside during the pandemic. Though they are not siblings, all three get along well and keep me very busy as I stay mostly at home. This year, it has been more important than ever to have these guys around, especially knowing I have been a part in saving their lives.”

Iris L.

“I would never have made it through the early lockdown days of the pandemic. Living alone and working from home, Dug was my constant companion. Our walks got me out for some exercise and interaction with other dog people. He is the best buddy ever!”

Laraine M.
