Have you ever wondered what happens when a cat falls out of a window in Manhattan? Or when a dog gets into a fight with a porcupine in rural Massachusetts? They are brought to the Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York City, the premier veterinary emergency room in the tri-state area and the busiest in the country. These cases and more are showcased in AMC’s new Notes from the ER video – an exclusive and intimate day-in-the-life of seasoned emergency veterinarian, Dr. Carly Fox.
As any pet owner knows, where you go first for care matters, and AMC is uniquely equipped to treat any dog, cat, bird, or exotic pet that walks through its doors, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. AMC is the only Level 1 Veterinary Trauma Center in the New York City area and one of the elite animal hospitals nationwide accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). This means that patients at AMC benefit from the collaborative care of highly skilled board-certified specialists with access to the latest technology, all held to the absolute highest standards of veterinary care. In 2021, AMC’s Emergency and Critical Care Service provided lifesaving care to more than 22,000 patients in a record-breaking year for patient visits.
Dr. Carly Fox has been a Senior Veterinarian at AMC since 2010 and she has seen it all in her 12 years at AMC – but the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting boom in pet ownership has brought new, unforeseen challenges to veterinary emergency rooms everywhere. “The emergency room has been extraordinarily busy. There’s never been a day that I’m not at work because of the pandemic. And we’re extremely proud that we can deliver excellent care very quickly.”
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Fox is regularly featured as a veterinary expert in top media outlets, such as CBS, Newsweek, Business Insider, New York Magazine, New York Post, Today, and others.
