(New York, N.Y. – December 20, 2023) The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center is proud to announce that Dr. Philip Fox, Head of Cardiology and Director of the Caspary Research Institute, is the recipient of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society’s Veterinarian of the Year Award. This prestigious award recognizes industry leaders who served the veterinary profession in an exemplary and distinguished manner and who are judged by peers to be the most deserving of the award.

Recognized internationally as a leader in cardiology and research, Dr. Philip Fox led the global REVEAL Study, a collaborative 10-year investigation across 50 veterinary centers in 21 countries that identified how hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease that is known to cause sudden death and heart failure in people, is also present in cats and linked to serious health problems in these pets. Dr. Fox has treated thousands of patients and published extensively.

About Dr. Philip Fox
Dr. Philip Fox, DVM, MSc, DACVIM/ECVIM (Cardiology), DACVECC, is Senior Veterinarian, Head of Cardiology, Vincent Astor Chair in Comparative Medicine, and Director, Caspary Research Institute at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center.

Dr. Fox received his DVM degree at The Ohio State University. He is a well-recognized international speaker and has won many honors, including Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the American and European Colleges of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) and the NY City Veterinary Medical Association; the North American Veterinary Conference (NAVC) Speaker of the Year, and Distinguished Ohio State University Alumnus Award. Dr. Fox was also honored by the City of New York receiving its Award of Merit from the NYPD, (for research to identify health risks in police dogs at and following the WTC 9/11 terrorist attacks). He was past President, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Cardiology Specialty. He has published extensively, including two cardiology textbooks, and is one of the founding editors of the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology. Dr. Fox is a popular lecturer at professional state and national veterinary conferences on topics related to coughing, heart and lung disease, new diagnostic methods, and effective therapies.
