Jonathan Ferrari VMD, DACVS (Small Animal), Fellow Candidate, Surgical Oncology Appointed Senior Veterinarian, Specialist in Surgery

Press Release

(November 4, 2022 – New York, N.Y.) The Stephen & Christine Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC), the largest non-profit animal hospital in the world, announced the expansion of its Cancer Institute with the appointment of Dr. Jonathan Ferrari – an AMC-trained surgeon – as Senior Veterinarian in the Surgical Oncology Service.

Dr. Jonathan Ferrari is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in small animal surgery. He earned his BA and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He then completed a one-year Rotating Internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center and continued at AMC as a Resident in Surgery, where he was the Kovner Surgery Resident. Most recently, he completed a Surgical Oncology Fellowship at Colorado State University. He is committed now to providing comprehensive care for dogs and cats with cancer and pursues clinical research to better treat patients fighting cancer.

“Dr. Ferrari has been a standout talent since joining the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center as an Intern in 2017. Throughout his training, first as an Intern and then as a Surgery Resident, he has proven himself to be a highly skilled, integral, and beloved member of our team. His surgical precision and skill are matched only by his warmth, work ethic, and dedication to all animals. We are thrilled that he is returning home to AMC, and I cannot wait to see all he achieves in the coming years,” said Kathryn Coyne, President and CEO.

“Following five years of postgraduate training, including four here at AMC, it is a proud moment to return as a Senior Veterinarian,” said Dr. Ferrari. “It is because of the incredible mentors I have had here that I was inspired to pursue my dream of becoming a surgical oncologist. It is a privilege to work alongside the most skilled veterinarians in our profession, and I look forward to helping countless animals together.”

As a surgical oncologist, Dr. Ferrari specializes in the surgical treatment of malignant tumors and growths, offering small animal pets comprehensive cancer care. Dr. Ferrari will work collaboratively across the Cancer Institute, which includes surgical, medical, and radiation oncology, providing the most comprehensive oncology treatment available to pets anywhere.

Earlier this month, the Cancer Institute unveiled a renovated, state-of-the-art radiation oncology facility with human-quality technology only available at AMC.
