Pets with Cushing’s Disease, also known as hyperadrenocorticism, may experience a range of health issues due to the excessive production of cortisol — a hormone essential for stress response and metabolic regulation. On July 17th, 2024, Dr. Dennis Slade, Specialist in Internal Medicine at AMC, discussed the major forms of Cushing’s Disease in dogs and cats. While the variety of clinical signs can make diagnosing this disorder a challenge, with proper treatment and monitoring, pets can maintain a good quality of life.

After completing veterinary training at Cornell University and residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Dennis Slade practiced internal medicine outside of Washington, DC and Brooklyn, NY before joining the staff at the Animal Medical Center in 2016. He has interests in gastroenterology, hepatology, endocrinology, and immunology. He also has a strong interest in veterinary education and is active in intern and resident education programs.
